The best candle scents are the ones people come back for. We hand-pour over 200 fragrances, and every one is available in every candle we make, so we did not guess at this list. These are the scents our customers actually buy most, all year and season by season.
Best candle scents for home, all year
- Nag Champa. Our top seller by a wide margin. Deep patchouli softened with powder, musk, amber and vanilla. It has the calm, quiet feel of incense.
- Dragon’s Blood. Toasted cedarwood, a bright lift of orange, and deep patchouli. Bold, woodsy and long-lasting.
- Cactus Flower and Jade. Watery cactus flower, agave and aloe over a touch of patchouli. Clean and green, like a garden after rain.
- Sea Salt and Orchid. Crisp sea air with soft orchid underneath. Fresh and airy, never sharp.
- Egyptian Amber. Jasmine, lavender and orange settling into vanilla, musk and sandalwood. Warm and golden.
- Orange Blossom. Juicy orange with creamy vanilla and a little raspberry. Cheerful and easy to love.
- Caribbean Teakwood. Leather, black tea, pepper and teakwood. Deep and woodsy.
Best Christmas candle scents
In November and December, evergreen and spice take over. These are our holiday best sellers. Pour any of them into our 20 ounce Flurry snowflake candle, a glass jar embossed with snowflakes that makes an easy winter gift. For the holiday table, our 3-wick wooden dough bowl candle makes a centerpiece in any of these scents.
- Balsam and Cedar. Our top Christmas scent. Cool pine and eucalyptus over cedarwood and balsam fir, like a walk through a winter forest.
- Fraser Fir. A freshly cut Christmas tree, with a bright snap of citrus over green balsam.
- Seriously Cinnamon. Bold, sweet cinnamon, like a tray of cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven.
- Christmas Hearth. Cinnamon and orange, fir and pine, and a thread of smoke like embers in the fireplace.
- Nordic Night. Eucalyptus, lavender and pine with rosemary and oakmoss. A frosty night outdoors.
- Frankincense and Myrrh. Warm, resinous and quiet, a traditional holiday scent.
- Gingerbread. Ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg wrapped in sweet cookie dough and vanilla.
Best fall candle scents
From September through October, customers reach for pumpkin, apple and the woods.
- Pumpkin Soufflé. Baked pumpkin, butter, sugar and a dusting of spice. Pure dessert.
- Autumn Woods. Fresh pine and woodland air, cool and earthy.
- Apple Maple Bourbon. Crisp apple, vanilla and maple with a splash of bourbon.
- Pine and Patchouli. Lime and pear up top, then sage, patchouli, balsam and cedarwood.
- Toasted Pumpkin Spice. Sweet pumpkin with cinnamon and nutmeg, like a bonfire night.
How to pick a scent for each room
- Living room. Warm, woody scents fill a big space and feel welcoming. Try Egyptian Amber or Nag Champa.
- Kitchen. Bright citrus or bakery scents suit it best. Orange Blossom is a favorite, and Smoke and Odor Eliminator uses a clean, spiced blend to cut through lingering cooking smells.
- Bedroom and bath. Fresh, soft scents keep a small room from feeling crowded. Try Sea Salt and Orchid or Cactus Flower and Jade.
- Entry and guest room. Seasonal scents greet people at the door. Go evergreen in winter and pumpkin in fall.
Match the candle to the room, too. A large jar suits an open living area, while a travel tin candle or a few scented votive candles are plenty for a bathroom or a desk.
Try a scent before you commit
Every candle fragrance is also one of our soy wax melts, so a 2-pack of melts is an inexpensive way to test a scent in your own home. Once you find a favorite, pick it in an apothecary candle, a canning jar candle, or any of our soy candles. A candle in someone’s favorite scent also makes an easy gift.
